Deborah Manning, daughter of James and Mary Manning was born in Woodford County, Illinois, December 11, 1839, and departed this life at the home of her son Edwin Whorrall in Roberts, Illinois, Thursday, December 15th, 1921, aged 82 years and 4 days.
On the 15th of November, 1857 she was married to Joseph Whorrall. For nineteen years Mrs. and Mrs. Whorrall lived near El Paso, Illinois. In 1876 they moved to a farm south of Roberts which was their home until his death, March 11, 1917. After Mr. Whorrall's death she lived with her sons.
Mrs. Whorrall was a member of the M.E. Church at Roberts, also a member of the Roberts local W.C.T.U. During her years of active life she was faithful worker in the church and in the various church societies and was earnest and active in the cause of the W.C.T.U. During the past few years her health has been such that she was unable to give the attention that she would have liked to this work, but she has always been faithful in what ways she could. While she could not attend the public meetings, her best wishes were with them and the frequent ? received from her showed her desire to do all that she could for the advancement of the others. She had a large circle of friends who join the bereaved family in sorrow at her death. She was a kind wife and mother and a true friend.
Mr. and Mrs. Whorrall were parents of seven sons and two daughters. These were Joseph K. who died in Roberts Nov. 8, 1907; Edwin of Roberts; James William of ?; Miles of Remingon, Indiana; Thomas Walter of central Square, New York; Charles ? of Manteno; Henry E. of Gilman; and Mrs. Mary M. Roberts and Mrs. Sarah M. Foster of Roberts. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Harriett Brown of St ? Missouri, and forty grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was held at the home Sunday afternoon at two o'clock Rev. William ? offficiating. The remains were then laid to rest in Lyman cemetery.
