Almond Berry (Barry ?) Umbarger, son of Josiah and Jane Umbarger was born February 23, 1866 near ??, LaSalle County, Illinois, and died in Lyman Township, near Roberts, October 25, 1922, aged 56 years, ? months, and 2 days. When he was 2 years old his parents moved to Ford County, Illinois, and he has made his home here ever since. On the 25th day of September, 1889, he married Miss Minnie Laura Otto.
Having lived for fifty-four years in the vicinity of Melvin and Roberts, he was known to all our people. He was a successful farmer, and honest man and one who was highly esteemed by all who knew him. Mr. and Mrs. Umbarger were the parents of three daughters, Mrs. Verna Steiner, Mrs. Sylvia Seng and Miss Myrtle, at home. He leaves to mourn his death, his widow, the three daughters, three grand children, his mother, three sisters and one brother, several nephews and nieces and a host of friends who join the family in sorrow. His brothers, and sisters are Jesse Umbarger of Melvin, Mrs. Jennie Short of Goldfish, Iowa, Mrs. Hattie Dieninger of LeClede, Missouri, Mrs. Adda Huxtable of Gibson City. Hs father proceeded him in death thirteen years ago.
The funeral services were held at the home of his daughter Mrs. Emil Seng, Saturday afternoon, October 28, Rev. John T. Killip Pastor of the M. E. Church, officiating. The remains were then laid to rest in Lyman Cemetery.
Among those from a distance who attended the funeral were the three sisters mentioned above, Harold Tierney of Gibson City, Thomas Umbarger of Carlock and Mr. and Mrs. William Houtzel and family of Buckley, Mrs. and Mrs. Fred ? and family of Buckley, Mr. and Mrs. Raleigh Huxtable and daughter Doretha, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Huxtable and Miss Ida Spell ? of Gibson City, and Miss Helen ? of Gibson City.
