Catherine Dilks Dies Sunday After Sudden Illness
Mother of Sidney Dilks, Paxton Attorney; Mrs. Johnson of Roberts
Mrs. Catherine A. (Rebbe) Dilks, 75 of Roberts passed away Sunday, Oct. 23, at three o'clock in Paxton Community Hospital after a sudden illness. Mrs. Dilks became ill last Wednesday but was not considered in serious condition. She was taken to the hospital Sunday morning.
Born Jan. 12, 1874, at Tontogony, Ohio, a daughter of a pioneer German couple, she was married in July 1900, to Oliver C. Dilks, who preceded her in death in 1943.
Soon after their marriage the couple moved to Geneva, Ill. Later they resided at Ludington, Michigan, and moved to Roberts in 1912. They operated hotels in these cities until Mr. Dilk's retirement. Mr. Dilks was a native of England.
Surviving the deceased are one daughter, Mrs. Katherine Johnson of Roberts, and two sons, Attorney Sidney H. Dilks of Paxton and Oliver C. Dilks of Palatine, Ill. Two children, Evelyn and Arthur L. Dilks are deceased.
One brother, John Rebbe, of Tonotgany, Ohio, also survives, as do four sisters, Mrs. Ida Pike, Mrs. Nellie Green and Mrs. Hattie Mollencop, all of Bowling Green, Ohio, and Mrs. Grace Rebbe of Fort Seneca, Ohio. Four grandchildren surviving are Arthur Johnson, Peoria; John and Jerry Dilks, Palatine, Ohio, and Stephen Dilks, Paxton.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 26, at two o'clock in the afternoon from the Congregational Church at Roberts. Rev. Robert Karn, former pastor now of Shiloh, officiated at the last rites with Rev. Dean Dalrymple, student pastor, assisting.
