Joseph Leatherman



Joseph Leatherman died Saturday, June 18th, 1932, at his home in Sheldon. The funeral was held Tuesday. Burial was at Roberts. The deceased leaves three sons two daughters. These are Cyrus, Alvin and Wilbur, and Mrs. Anna Featherling and Mrs. Jennie Roberts. Mr. Leatherman lived at Roberts many years ago.
His was a military funeral. he was the next to the last man left from the company in which he served during the Civil War.
The last man left of the company came many miles from his home in Indiana to carry the flag while they paid the last rites to Mr. Leatherman.

DEATH TAKES LAST SHELDON CIVIL WAR VET
Sheldon, June 20. -- J. H. Leatherman, the last civil war veteran of this town, died Saturday evening at 8 o'clock in his home following a paralytic stroke. He was 87 and had resided here for the past 12 years.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 from the Christian church but the place of interment has not been decided upon as yet.
The son of Cyrus and Elizabeth Leatherman, he was born in Elizabethtown, Ohio, in 1845. Surviving are his widow, Mary, and five children; Mrs. William Fethering and Alva Leatherman, of Sheldon; Mrs. W. L. Robert, of Cissna Park; Miss Ruth Leatherman, of Raub, and Cyrus Leatherman, of Woodland. There are 15 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
