Mary Anderson

Mary Goodlet Martin, daughter of John and Margaret (Anderson) Martin was born in Peoria, Illinois, September 21, 1851, and died at her home in Paxton, Illinois, Tuesday, July 28, 1942, aged 91 years 10 months and 7 days.
She grew to young womanhood at La Prairie Center, Illinois, and at that place she was married to Christopher Anderson October 12, 1869. Mr. Anderson had come to this country from Scotland in 1866 and had begun farming two miles north of Roberts. It was to this farm that Mrs. Anderson came as a bride. At that time the railroad through this vicinity had not been built and of course Roberts and Thawville were not yet in existence. Mr. Anderson died March 10, 1924.
To Mr. and Mrs. Anderson were born nine daughters and one son, all of whom are living except Dr. Martha Anderson, who died December 29, 1929. Those living are Georgia of Scotland; Margaret, Jean, Anne, Marion and Flora of Paxton; Mrs. J. H. Murray (Mary) of Evanston; and Mrs Reinold Blesch (Bessie) of Red Land, California; and Adam Anderson of Roberts.
During the past few years she has lived in Paxton but here in Roberts she was known as one of our most prominent citizens. Even during the time of her illness she has always beena able to take an active interest in the matters of public betterment and has held office in the ladies societies of the church and was able to consult with other officers and members and actions for the best interest of the community.
Funeral Services will be held at the home (506 E. Pells Street, Paxton) Thursday, July 30, at eleven o'clock. Burial will be in Lyman Cemetery in Roberts.
