Durwood Fred Roeder
Durwood Fred Roeder, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Roeder of Roberts, was born September 7, 1909. After a brief stay of ten years and twenty-four days, he fell asleep in Jesus on October 1st, 1919. Durwood enjoyed the atmosphere of a Christian home and the instruction and fellowhsip of an affectionate father and a loving mother. He was a sweet, tender hearted son of a very cheerful disposition and always mindful of others. His sweet smile will not soon be forgotten. He was a faithful attendant of the U.E. Sunday school, where he will be greatly missed.
Sorrowing with the parents are only one brother, Harvey; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Roeder of Gilman and Mrs. D. Zahn of Roberts; and many other relatives and friends.
While we mourn his loss and our hearts are sad, we rejoice in the fact that he has joined the ransomed in Heaven. The funeral services were conducted by the undersigned, assisted by Rev. G. A. Walter of Chicago. --C Wunsch
Durwood was a boy of uncommon promise. He was always in good health until he had an attack of influenza last winter. This dread disease left him with a leakage of the heart and since that time he has gradually failed. He was given every attention that could be given. When the local doctors failed to give relief they called a specialist from Chicago but he agreed with the local physicians that no medical or surgical skill could avail.
The Herald joins the community in extending sympathy to the bereaved family.
