Mrs. Mary A. Hoyt
Mary Jemison was born at what is known as the Ridge, about twelve miles from Salem, Indiana, September 10, 1837, and died at her home in Roberts, Illinois, Sunday morning, August 15th, 1926, aged 88 years, 11 months and 5 days.
She was married in Indiana and was the mother of three children one son and two daughters all of whom preceded her in death. The only ones of her children who ever lived here were Mrs. Alice Arnold and Mrs. Ida Newman both of who died several years ago. Her last husband Walter Hoyt who came with her to Roberts about forty years ago died in 1896 in Tennessee.
Mrs. Hoyt was a member of the Methodist Church in Roberts of which she was a faithful attendant. She was a woman who appreciated any kindness shown and was always faithful to her friends.
She has been an invalid for a long time and has been cared for by Miss Sadie Russell who has given her the very best attention possible.
She leaves to mourn her death two grand-sons, Ralph Newman of Champaign and Roy Newman of Forrest. Also five great-grand-children and many friends who join the family in sorrow.
The funeral service was held at the M.E. Church in Roberts, Tuesday afternoon,at 1:30 o'clock, Rev. John T. Killup, officiating. The interment was in Lyman Cemetery.
Among those from a distance who attended the funeral were Harry Newman of Rensselaer, Indians, Mrs. A.B. Tucker of Clarksdale, Miss,. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Newman and son of Champaign and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Newman of Forrest.
