Helen L. Dietterle

Mrs. Edward Dietterle

Helen Louise Bryant, daughter of George H. and Laura (Sholt) Bryant, was born in Winton Place, Cincinnati, Ohio, September 24, 1894, and died at her home in Melvin, Tuesday morning, Feb. 10, 1920 at 1:20 o'clock, aged 25 years, 4 months and 16 days. In early childhood she moved with her parents to Melvin, Ill., where they lived a short time and then moved to Roberts, where she grew to womanhood. She graduated from the Roberts High School in the class of 1911. She worked at the millinery business for several years in which profession she acquired much talent and recognized ability. Her work in this line was mostly at Roberts, except for three years when she was at Manson, Iowa.
On Wednesday evening, Oct. 11, 1916, at the Congregational church in Roberts, she was married to Edward W. Dietterle of Melvin. To this union were born two children -- Leota Grace, who died a little more than a year ago, and an infant which was born and died on the morn of the mother's death, and will be buried in the grave with the mother. It is a sad duty to record the death of a mother, but sadder yet that of a mother and child both taken at one stroke.
The deceased was a young woman of more than ordinary ability. She was a dutiful daughter, a devoted wife and mother and a woman of excellent Christian character. She was affiliated with the Congregational church here. She was of a happy, jovial nature, ever smiling and ever doing what she could to lighten the burdens and lessen the cares of others. Her life was short, cut down even before the prime of life, and yet in that short life she has done much. It has been a life of usefulness and of honor. The few years that were given her were well spent.
She was a Christian who accepted the Bible as the inspired Word of God; during her last conversation with her mother she stated this belief most emphatically, consequently the Bible was her constant companion.
Mrs. Dietterle leaves to mourn her death, her husband, father, mother, and one brother, Melvin S. Bryant of Roberts. She also leaves an aunt and two cousins, Mrs. Emma Keen, Arthur Keen and Mrs. Ernest Howell in Los Angeles, California, two uncles and one cousin, Andrew and Middleton Bryant and Miss Ethel Broant in Cincinnati, O. In this vicinity and in the vicinity of Melvin she leaves a host of friends who are sorrowing with the family and to whom her taking away will be a great loss. She will be missed from the home and from the community, from the church and from social life.
The funeral services were held on Thursday, at the M. E. church at Melvin at 1:30 o'clock. Rev. L. F. Cullom of Clifton and Rev. Ada H(?) of Melvin officiating. The remains were than laid to rest in Lyman cemetery in Roberts.
