Lyle was a strong and healthy child until a few months ago. He then had an attack of membraneous croup that affected his throat so that he had to be given constant attention. He was taken to Chicago and kept at the Durand and Presbyterian Hospitals for two or three months. It became necessary to keep a tube in his throat all the time for breathing even after he had recovered sufficiently to be brought home. The day of his death he had coughed and loosened this tube and it seemed impossible to replace it so that it would act properly. This caused his death by strangulation.
Lyle was at the Farmers' Picnic here with his parents the day before his death and seemed cheerful and happy to the delight to all who saw him. Many of his friends had not seen him previously for some time and they were pleased with his improved appearance.
The funeral services were held at the home of his grandmother Mrs. Annie Lally in Roberts, Saturday, August 27th, at 2:00 o'clock P.M. Rev. William Hainsworth, pastor of the Congregational Church, officiating.
The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved parents.
Among those from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Gust Gimbel of Melvin, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Farley and daughter Mary, Mrs. Carrie Fiets, Mrs. Gene McCarthey and daughter Mary, Mrs. Joseph Dermody, Miss Margaret Dermody and Miss Margaret Gleason all of Gilman.
