Walter John Talbot

Son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Talbot, died at this home three miles south-west of Roberts, Tuesday afternoon, August 13, 1918, aged 3 years, 5 months and 9 days. The cause of death was infantile paralysis with which he had been suffering for more than a week. Funeral services at Lyman Cemetery in Roberts today at three o'clock p.m.
Walter was an exceptionally robust child, always active and after he became ill the fact that was most alarming was his quietness. He objected to moving around or being moved too much. Owing to the fact that the early symptoms of this disease are so similar to other ailments of minor consequence it was not correctly diagnosed until last Saturday. His sister Florence was then suffering with the same malady. From that time on Walter continued very low until his death.
The best medical attention that could be obtained was given and a trained nurse who has had considerable experience in cases of this kind was sent from the hospital to care for the children.
Florence is partially paralyzed but is not suffering severly and it is hoped that she may soon recover and that no after effects shall result.
Every precaution is taken to prevent the spread of the disease and while no general quarantine has been declared care is being taken to prevent an opportunity of contagion and every suspicion will receive prompt attention. There is no reason for undue fear but there is every reason for careful attention to every ailment.
We join the friends in extending deepest sympathy to the parents at this this time of sorrow.
