Elizabeth Hatten Burns was born in Yorkshire, England, June 3, 1829 and died in Roberts, January 13, 1918, aged 89 years, 6 months, and 10 days. In her early days she left England and came to America where she was married in 1846 to Mr. Michael Burns at the age of 17. To this union were born six children, Will Thomas of Klondike, Alaska; Elizabeth Anne of Roberts; Sarah Maria deceased; Frank Edward, Omaha, Nebraska; George Elmer, Yorktown, Iowa; Adeline Adelia, Los Angeles, California. Her husband died in Shenandoah, Iowa, in 1901, at the age of 91 years and 3 days.
Mrs. Burns lived alone until in 1918 when she came to Roberts to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Boyle. For the past several years she has been failing in health. She was a member of the Catholic Church and a faithful Christian all her life.
The deceased leaves to mourn her death the children named above also a number of other relatives and a host of friends who join the family in sorrow. The funeral services were held at the Catholic Church Wednesday, January 16, 1918. Rev. Father McMullen, officiating, after which the remains were laid to rest in St. Mary's cemetery.
