Susan Iler

Mrs. B.F. Iler
Susan (Brown) Iler was born in Canada November 10th, 1846, and departed this life at  her home in Thawville, Sunday morning, August 18, 1918, aged 74 years, 9 months, and 8 days.
In early womanhood she came to Illinos and here she was married, November 29, 1867 to Benjamin Iler. They lived for five years in LaSalle County and then came to Wall township, Ford county, where they lived for three years when they moved to Lyman township, south of Roberts. After seven years there they moved to their farm northeast of Roberts which was their home for thirty-five years. Last February they retired from the farm on account of her failing health and moved to Thawville.
For several years Mrs. Iler has had poor health but only for the past five weeks was she confined to her bed. During this time she, fortunately, did not suffer much pain, yet all the care of friends and skill of physicians could not arrest the progress of the disease.
Mrs. Iler was a faithful and conscientious Christian, a member of the Robert (sic) Methodist Episcopal church for many years and she was one who put her religion into actual practice; a devoted wife and mother and a good neighbor. She was always ready to assist those in need and did her full share in brightening the journey through life of all with whom she was associated.
To Mr. and Mrs. Iler were born eight children all of whom are living. They are Almeda Dixon of Melvin; Willis Iler of California, Kentucky; Serena Smith of Thawville, Anna Mott of Mason City, Iowa; Nancy Woodward of Thawville; Ida Wilson of Paxton John Iler of Roberts and Alice Wood of Thawville. They also have seventeen grand children living and three preceded her in death.
The funeral service was held in the M.E. church in Roberts, Thursday, August 22nd, at 2:00 p.m., Rev. D.G. Dubuis officiating. The remains were laid to rest in Lyman Cemetery. It was at first planned to have the funeral Wednesday but it was postponed until Thursday that her grandson, Murrel Iler who is in camp of the U.S.A. at Fort Brown, Texas, could attend.
