Isabel D. Ruetgers, daughter of Charles William and Christen Duncan Ruetgers, was born Aug. 18, 1840 near Irville, Muskingham county, Ohio. the family home was later in Indiana, near Columbus, and here she was united in marriage with F. M. Hancock Nov. 5, 1859.
After a few years they removed to Royal Center and later to Francesville, Indiana.
About 26 years ago the family came to Roberts, Ill., and for several years conducted the Magnolia House.
Nine years ago Mr. and Mrs. Hancock and daughter came to Piper City to reside. Here Mr. Hancock died Nov. 8, 1912.
Seven children were born to this home, six daughters and one son, three of whom are deceased, Willie Morton, Minnie E. and Olive T. The surviving daughters are: Anna B. of Piper City; Mrs. Cora E. Graham of Roberts; Mrs. Katherine White of Portland, Oregon and Mrs. Maud Roberts of Roberts.
Mrs. Hancock was one of a family of eight children, and she outlived all the rest of her family. At the age of 14 Mrs. Hancock was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church, and has continually enjoyed a definite Christian experience. She was a consistent, earnest and liberal member of the church, interested in all the work of Her Master's Vineyard. She was a faithful and greatly beloved member of the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society. She was patient, kindly and sympathetic, and most highly esteemed by all who knew her.
Through for a few years she was growing quite feeble, yet her health was generally good, and her sudden death was not accompanied by any pain or suffering. She quietly slipped away from the shores of time about noon of Saturday, January 4, 1919, having reached the good age of 78 years, 4 months, and 16 days.
Services in her memory were held in the Methodist church of Piper City, Tuesday at 10 a.m., conducted by her pastor, Rev. G. P. Snedaker, and burial was in Roberts cemetery by the grave of her husband. --Piper City Journal.
