Paradise M. McCarthy
Paradise M. McCarthey [sic] was born at Murphyville, Kentucky, March 7th, 1852, and died at his home in Roberts, Illinois, Wednesday, May 22nd, 1929, aged 77 years, 2 months and 15 days. He came to Illinois among the pioneers here and on the 18th day of July 1877 married Miss Virginia Tavenner. To them were born three children, Lizzie Ellen who died in 1891, Dean W. who resides at Mendota and Mrs. Clara Keup of Roberts.
In 1891 Mr. and Mrs. McCarthey moved from McLean County to Ford County and for several years made their home on one of the Hiram Sibley farms near Sibley. Later they moved to a farm west of Roberts afterwards moving to the Village of Roberts which was there home until death. Mrs. McCarthey died January 13th, 1920.
Mr. McCarthey was a member of the order of Knights of Pythias having been a charter member of Burr Oak Lodge at Sibley which was organized about forty years ago. Later he transferred his membership to Lyman Lodge No. 293 at Roberts.
The deceased leaves to mourn his death the son and daughter mentioned above, also one sister in Kentucky and a host of friends who join the family in sorrow.
The funeral services were held at the residence Friday afternoon at two o'clock the Rev. C. A. Sullivan officiating. Interment was in Lyman Cemetery. Lyman Lodge K. of P. had charge of the services at the grave.
Among those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Orrin Tavenner, Roy Tavenner and Mrs. Edward Leidy of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Tavenner of Gibson City; D. W. McCarthey and sons of Mendota; Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Quinn, Mr. and Mrs. Austin McGreal, Mr. and Mrs. Fisher, Messers Newman and Leggate; Mr. and Mrs. John Quinn and Mrs. Maggie Heringer of Chatsworth; Mrs. Reberk and daughter of Sibley; Mrs. D. D. Hoagland of Peoria; Mrs. F. H. Keup of Saunemin; and many friends and neighbors from Melvin and vicinity.
