Joseph E. Whorrall


J. E. Whorrall died Friday night, Nov. 8. He had been ailing for several years, yet his death was very sudden. He had lived in our midst for over thirty years and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He was a genius and displayed his skill with knife and brush. He leaves a wife and son, father, mother, six brothers and two sisters.

Joseph Elmer Whorrall was born in El Paso, Woodford county, Illinois, Feb. 14, 1860, and moved to Ford county, Ill., in March, 1875, where he made his home the remainder of his life. He died at his home in Roberts, Nov. 8, 1907, aged 47 years, 8 months and 25 days. He was the second of nine children born to Joseph and Deborah Whorrall and the first one of the family to depart this life. His death occurred just one week before the fiftieth anniversary of his parents.
He was united in marriage to Anna Gimbel, Dec. 21, 1892. To them was born one son, Harry, Nov. 13, 1903. He was among the first to unite with the M. E. church in Roberts and was a faithful member till death. He was a member not only of the church but of the Sunday school and Epworth League. He suffered life-long affliction and yet was patient and uncomplaining.
He leaves father and mother, wife and son, six brothers, viz.: Edwin, of Meadows, Ill.; Walter, of Loda, Ill.; Herbert, of Thawville, Ill., and Henry of Potomac, Ill., and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Roberts and Mrs. Harriet Foster, both of Roberts, who will mourn because they miss him, but rejoice because they feel assured that all his sufferings are o'er, and forevermore.
The funeral services were held at the M. E. church in Roberts, Monday, Nov. 11, at 2 o'clock, Rev. G. D. Hensell officiating. Interment in Roberts cemetery.  --Roberts Herald.
