Katherine Hummel daughter of  Ludwig and Katherine (Glock) Hummel was born in Herbach, Germany, November 11, 1840, and died at the home of her niece, Miss Mary Strott in Baltimore, Md., Wednesday October 24, 1923, aged 82 years, 11 and 14 days. She was one of a family of eight children, 5 brothers and 3 sisters, all of who preceded her in death except one brother Adam Hummel of Burdett, Kansas.
She came to America with her parents in 1848, settling in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. Eight years later they came to Galesburg, Illinois. In 1868 they moved to the Grand Prairie Country, near Onarga. There she was married to ?eter Gose in 1870. To them was born one son, George Gose, now of Crivilz, Wisconsin. Her husband died November 6, 1895.
Mr. and Mrs. Gose moved to Roberts soon after the village was laid out and Mr. Gose in partnership with William Graham built the store now occupied by W.H.Wakelin and were the first occupants of that building. Mr. Graham died soon after and Mr. Gose sold his interest in the store and later moved away from Roberts. While in Roberts Mrs. Gose was a member of the M.E. Church in this place.
The funeral services were held at the home of her niece, Mrs. Vanda Montz Sunday, October 28th, at one o'clock, Rev. John T. Killip and Rev. Jeannette O. Ferris officiating. The remains were then laid to rest in Lyman cemetery.
Among those from a distance who attended the funeral were George Gose of Crivilz, Wis., Miss Mary Strott of Baltimore and John Montz of Monticello, Ind.
