George Philip Eppelsheimer son of Philip and Margaret (Steib) Eppelsheimer, was born at Hessen-Darmstadt, Niedersaveheim, Germany, May 25th, 1848, and died at his home in Roberts, Illinois, March 22nd, 1929, aged 80 years, 9 months and 27 days.
He came to America with his parents in 1862 and spent one year in LaSalle County after which they came to Ford County and settled on a farm near where Roberts is now situated. In 18?? he married Miss Amelia Meade who survives him. To them were born nine children, eight of whom survive. These are four sons, Levi of Ridgeville, Indiana, George of Thawville, Louis of Charlotte, Michigan, and Stanley of Chicago; four daughters, Mrs. Lizzie Barber of Roberts, Mrs. Emma Wait of Chicago, Mrs. Sylvia Lachenmyer of Thomasboro, and Mrs. Millie Olson of Thawville. One daughter Mrs. Ida Havener died in August 1919. He was a member of the Evangelical Church of Roberts in which church he has held membership for fifty years.
His health has been failing for the past eight years but only for the past few weeks that he was unable to attend to business. He was a kindly man of a jovial disposition and always ready to assist those in need.
The funeral services were held at the M. E. Church in Roberts Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, Rev. Charles Wynsch of Saunemin who was his pastor for many years and Rev. C. A. Sullivan officiating. Interment was in Lyman Cemetery.
